A Letter from President Chickie Erdmann

As president of Survivors of Blue Suicide I look forward to continuing the mission of fostering hope by helping support survivors of law enforcement suicide while honoring our loved ones and fallen heroes. I myself am a survivor of blue suicide. My husband, Lt Billy Erdmann, died by suicide on October 7, 2019. He had worked as a police officer for 32 years with both the NYPD and the Nassau County Police Department. He was still actively working at the time of his death. We were married for 20 years, together for 23 and had known each other since we were teenagers. We have 2 children together who miss him terribly.

At the time of Billy’s death, I did not really know many other survivors who had experienced the same tragedy my family had. Once I found SBS I felt such a sense of support and community it was overwhelming, in the best of ways. I finally had people who truly understood what me and my children had been through. SBS has offered so much to me in my healing journey and that is what I hope to offer to other survivors as we move forward. My goal, and the goal of the entire advisory board, is to be the light for other survivors and help guide them towards the understanding that we all here for them to help them heal. Together we can not only help break the stigma, in hopes of helping other law enforcement officers who may be struggling, but we can help survivors find a path to healing.

My deepest appreciation and affection to staff of SBS, both past and present who guide us and aid us in assisting hundreds of families across the country.
